The German transport infrastructure has been expanded for years. Nevertheless, problems such as traffic jams have also been growing for some time. In 2021, just under 350,000 hours of traffic jam were recorded on trunk roads in Germany. The effects are particularly dramatic in cities. Many residents feel threatened by the constantly increasing traffic density. Air emissions or noise pollution are just some of the reasons. Today's urban planning must therefore increasingly implement solutions to said problems.
They are particles, substances or radiation that are released into the atmosphere. There are emissions from nature, such as soot from volcanic eruptions or CO₂ from forest fires. Air pollutants are caused by industry, traffic and heating, among other things.
In contrast to the state capital, the measured values in Aalen are comparatively very good.

The concept of modal shift is based on the creation of alternatives to existing roads within a city. These can be, for example, bypass roads or subsidies for public transport. Driving bans restrict traffic directly by closing sections of roads or entire city areas completely to motorized traffic.
There are around 46 million passenger cars in Germany. Many of those who suffer from noise also produce it. Compared with other motor vehicles, the individual passenger car generates the least noise. At an average speed of 50 km/h, a truck is as loud as 20 passenger cars. Noise can cause the following reactions via the autonomic nervous system, which regulates breathing, blood circulation and metabolism: Increase in heart rate, i.e. the heart beats faster. Constriction of the blood vessels with lowering of the skin temperature. Tension of the muscles (cramping).
Until 1987, north-south traffic flowed through Aalen via the B29. After that, the inner city was relieved. The first step was to relieve the inner city via the A7 in 1987. With the completion of the western bypass and the associated Rombach tunnel in 2001, the city of Aalen realized a further shifting of traffic from the city center and almost all supra-local heavy goods traffic was diverted away from the city center. However, the general traffic load within the city was also reduced. Evaluations of existing traffic from 2013 show that despite increasing vehicle numbers, the traffic load in the city center could be reduced by up to 7,000 vehicles per day.
